Prah, Constantine, and Baryeh #Review: Pop Travel by Tara Tyler

For July, we decided to go sci-fi (another genre I've filed under prefer-to-watch-the-tv-show... I know, it's  a bad habit).

The blurb
In 2080, technology has gone too far for J. L. Cooper. He thinks he can avoid pop travel teleportation, until he stumbles onto a video of a pop traveler who turns to dust.

Sparking a series of murders, attempts on his life, and threats to his brother, Cooper wants to pass off the evidence but knows he’s being watched and can’t trust anyone. And who would believe him?

With help from the neurotic genius “Creator” of pop travel and a beautiful Southern charmer, Cooper must expose the deadly glitch and shut it down or die trying. No problem.

I bought my copy from Amazon.

My Impressions
As the blurb says, the story is set way in the future where pop travelling is a reality. For those with travel nightmare stories, the idea of travelling anywhere in the world within minutes is attractive. Of course, any sane person (like myself - hehe) would probably mistrust the idea of disappearing from one place and (magically) appearing in another within minutes. This is exactly how the hero feels, and justifiably so because a glitch in the system is turning people to dust. Yikes!

I started reading the book on a lunch break. Usually I don't take my full break because there's always so much work to do, but once I began to read, I found myself flipping pages and trying to read up as much as I could before lunch time was over.

The first thing that struck me about Pop Travel is that the hero is a really ordinary guy. He's good-looking but not the best looking guy in the room and he certainly isn't a billionaire, but he is soo likable and believable - and he's one of the good guys, for real. I found myself caring about him right from the get go.

I enjoyed the characters, the dialogue and the various destinations in this fast-paced story. I will definitely be checking out more or Tara Tyler's work.

I give it four glowing stars!

Now, head over to Prah and Constantine's blogs for their reviews, especially if you're still on the fence about adding Pop Travel to your TBR list.
