Prah and Constantine Review: Lady Honor's Debt (The Baxendale Sisters Series Book 1) #Review #Historical #Romance
So I made a silent resolution to read a lot more books than I did last year, and I thought it would be a great idea to do monthly reviews. I've set up a "2015 Reading Challenge" on Goodreads modest goal of one and a half books a month. For now, I'm a guest reviewer on the Prah and Constatine Review team and I'm very pleased to post my first Prah and Constantine [and Baryeh:-))] review.
In my layman's opinion, the author's choice of words/expressions were authentic, which immediately thrusts a reader back in time. The story flowed well and made it easy to picture the scenes. I found the characters - not only the hero and heroine - likable and endearing. The plot was rather simple, which worked for the length of the story.
That said, I would have liked to enjoy the characters for a few more chapters. :-)
My main issue was the sex scene, which (SPOILER ALERT) was ended too abruptly - even for a closed-door scene. I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed at where and how it ended.
Overall, I found the story enjoyable and am definitely looking forward to the sequel.
Four glowing stars!
Don't forget to hop over to reviews of the same book by Nana Prah and Cathrina Constantine.
Ciao for now.

The idea is to each review the same book, which I thought would be fun. So for March, we read Lady Honor's Debt (The Baxendale Sisters Series Book 1) by Maggi Andersen.
First off, let me get the fine print out of the way. I purchased this book from Amazon and I haven't received any payment (or request) from the author to write a review.
Now to the fun part!
Lady Honor's Debt (The Baxendale Sisters Series Book 1
The Blurb
Freedom. That’s all Lady Honor Baxendale wants—for her sisters and for herself. Honor has a bold plan to become financially independent, using a skill she learned at her father’s knee. She seeks the help of a solicitor and is pleased with her choice…as long as she can resist the solicitor himself.
Lord Edward Winborne has been happy to come to the aid of his four sisters in the past. But when a neighbor’s daughter, Lady Honor Baxendale, requests his help for a dangerous scheme she has in mind, he feels it his duty to dissuade her. When that fails, he wants to protect her, and then somehow finds he wants to do more. Much more.
My Review
This is the first historical romance I've read in a while and I found myself engrossed with the setting and characters from page one.In my layman's opinion, the author's choice of words/expressions were authentic, which immediately thrusts a reader back in time. DeleteI love your review, Empi. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the great review! Some readers don't like sex scenes, and some do. Personally, I think sex scenes, like scenes where the characters face danger, are a great opportunity for a writer to reveal more of their personalities. I'm pleased you enjoyed the book!
